Person Centred Therapy

This is a non- judgemental approach with the underlying knowledge that you are the expert on you.

"Explore your thoughts and feelings"

Developed by American psychologist Carl Rodgers in the 1940s who believed that in the right conditions a person can reach ‘self-actualisation’. A fancy term for fulfilling your potential. This is open to everyone and is one of the humanistic approaches.

The client (you) brings the issue to the therapy and the therapist helps you to explore your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours, promoting more self-awareness and resolve.

To build your self-confidence and to realise you always have options within any given situation. It’s a non- judgemental approach with the underlying knowledge that you are the expert on you.

The principles for Person Centred Therapy are:

UPR

Unconditional positive regard – acknowledging accepting and valuing you.

Congruence

Being honest and transparent in how they  (the therapist) experience you and your world.

Empathetic understanding

Seeing your viewpoint as if they (the therapist) were you in your current situation.
